Weather and wellbeing: how to enjoy warm days while looking after yourself

While the nicer weather can have a number of benefits, for some it can also lead to problems with health and wellbeing. If you fall into this group, you may find yourself simultaneously looking forward to, and dreading, the upcoming seasons. However, there may be ways that you can look after yourself, and improve your health and welfare, to allow you to enjoy this time that much more.

Wear your sunglasses

The bright sun can lead to you feeling overheated, and even suffering from migraines, especially if you are already susceptible to them. Wearing sunglasses can help to reduce glare as well as the amount of light that enters your eyes. However, wearing sunglasses can seem difficult when you need prescription lenses to be able to see clearly. You don’t have to choose between your reading glasses and sunglasses. It is possible to order prescription sunglasses that look no different from a normal pair, but are made with lenses designed especially for you. This means that you can still optimise your vision and make the most out of that brighter weather.

Look after your stomach

Some people find that their digestive system gets upset during warmer weather. This may especially affect those who already suffer from problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome. Rather than assuming that you will need to spend the upcoming months in pain, or running for the toilet, you may want to think about how you can reduce your symptoms. Drinking more water can usually be a good place to start, as your body may be able to work better when hydrated. You may also find that there are a number of medications and herbal remedies that can help to keep the symptoms of IBS or other digestive disorders at bay. Taking the time to work through, and manage, any anxieties you might have could also have a positive effect on your stomach and digestion.

Be cautious in the sun

For many people, the sight of sunshine may fill them with excitement. Not only may it be warming up, but they may also have a chance of getting a tan. However, while the skin can make your skin a gorgeous bronze colour, it can also do a significant amount of damage. Rather than risking this, you may want to ensure you have applied a high SPF sun lotion with UV protection, and try to avoid spending a lot of time in direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day. If having a tan is important to you, you may want to consider trying out some fake tanning products that you can use at home. These may leave your skin looking and feeling wonderful, without the risk of burning or leading to cancer, and can be used throughout the year.

The warm weather doesn’t have to be something you either love or hate. You may want to think about the ways that you can maximise your health and welfare so you can really make the most of those nicer days.
