Who is Mum's The Nerd and how did it start?
Mum’s The Nerd is a UK family lifestyle blog based in Manchester, covering the different aspects of family life and the adventures we enjoy along the way.
Featuring a little bit of everything, the blog has a particular focus on modern family life, travel, home renovations, health and wellbeing, the great British countryside and lifestyle topics.
Mum’s The Nerd was launched in 2010 as a way to document life as a new parent. Since then, it has grown and evolved alongside our family, attracting readers from across the UK and around the world.
At Mum’s The Nerd, we’re passionate about sharing our experiences, offering honest recommendations and creating high-quality, relatable content that genuinely connects with our readers.
Who We Are
Karina is the writer and content creator behind Mum’s The Nerd. She started the blog in 2010 as a creative outlet when she became a new parent, and it has grown and evolved alongside the family ever since.
She loves spending time outdoors, working with the dogs and exploring the great British countryside. She’s also fascinated by history and enjoys travelling, home renovations, reading and attempting to grow her own vegetables, with varying degrees of success.
Although she loves days out and discovering new places, Karina is a homebody at heart. She loves nothing more than sitting in the garden with a good book or enjoying the sunshine, good food and a cocktail or two with the people she loves.
Karina has a serious weakness for stationery and Lego and can often be found gaming, reading or starting another craft project. The number of unfinished projects in her collection is becoming slightly embarrassing, but that rarely stops her from beginning something new.
One of her biggest dreams is to swap Manchester life for a home in the countryside, and hopefully take all those unfinished projects with her.
Arthur better known as AJ is known for his relentless dad jokes and laid-back personality, making him the comedian of the family.
He loves motorbikes, motorsports and the great outdoors. He’s also passionate about working with the dogs and is rarely happier than when he’s outside with Hugo and Roxie.
Another of AJ’s great loves is his Series III Land Rover. Whether he’s driving it, working on it or planning what needs doing next, it’s never far from his thoughts.
When he isn’t outdoors, working with the dogs or occupied with the Land Rover, AJ enjoys travelling, discovering new places and relaxing with a good whisky.
Isabelle is the reason Mum’s The Nerd began in 2010, when Karina started the blog as a way to document her experiences as a new parent.
Now a teenager, Isabelle has grown up alongside the blog and has developed a strong creative streak of her own. She loves music, enjoys playing the guitar and is happiest when she has an opportunity to be creative.
Although she now prefers to keep more of her life private, Isabelle will always be an important part of the family and the Mum’s The Nerd story.
Hugo is a working-line English Springer Spaniel and more than a bit of a scamp. Full of energy, enthusiasm and personality, he keeps the family entertained and is always ready for his next adventure.
Roxie is a working-line Golden Retriever and the family’s golden girl. In their eyes, she can do no wrong, although being a devoted mummy’s girl may help her get away with a little more than she should.
Both Hugo and Roxie love spending time outdoors and are happiest when they’re doing what they were bred to do. They bring plenty of love, muddy paws and character to family life.
