How To Keep To A Budget When Planning A Wedding

It’s important to try and keep to a budget when wedding planning. There are a lot of elements to a wedding day to pay for and none of them come cheap. With the average wedding coming in at a cost of between £20,000-£30,000, it’s incredible how expensive a wedding day can become even with just the basics covered.

With that being said, if you’re looking to keep to a budget when planning a wedding, here are some helpful tips.

Establish a budget

First and foremost, be sure to establish a budget for your wedding. This will enable you to spend the right amount of money without it needing to cost you a fortune.

Everything comes at a relatively high cost, especially when you mention to vendors that you’re getting married. That’s why it’s a good idea to make sure you’ve set yourself a budget so that you hopefully don’t ovwrspend by too much.

Always set an estimate of how much you’d like to spend on each area of your wedding and make sure that you’ve considered the average costs of most vendors and suppliers nowadays. Overestimating will ultimately help you to save money.

Consider a weekday wedding

A weekday wedding is a great way of saving money and if you’re not fussed or can be flexible surrounding days of the week that you can get married, do it on a weekday.

Weekends are often the most expensive days to get married on, particularly on a Friday or Saturday. However, getting married on weekday is going to make it a fraction of the cost, meaning you can spend your money elsewhere and have more available to spend or save depending on your goals.

Planning A Wedding

Shop around for suppliers and vendors

To help save money, get quotes from multiple suppliers and vendors. That way, you’ll be able to compare costs and hopefully come away with the best deal. Some vendors and suppliers will look to charge a lot but if you can negotiate and compare costs, you’ll hopefully save yourself some money.

Use your DIY skills

DIY skills are useful to have, especially when it comes to your wedding. Being able to utilise your DIY skills is handy to save money for your wedding. From wedding decorations to the wedding favours, get experimental with your DIY knowledge to see what you could do.

You never know, you might end up surprising yourself with your talents.

Cut your guest list

Finally, and probably the most important contributor to your costs is your guest list. If you’re inviting everyone and their neighbour to the wedding, your wedding costs will go up significantly.

Be selective when it comes to your guest list and try not to go over the top with the people you invite. Instead, try to cut down your guest list and limit the people who are coming so that you can save money.

With these tips, you’ll be able to keep your budget tight when planning a wedding.
