We had the opportunity to review our very first family friendly restaurant “The Stable Gate”

The Sable gate is part of the Brewers Fayre family  chain and catered for everything including children’s play areas so lots of fun for your little ones.  Serving a variety of meals from the main menu but also providing a popular carvery and also themed buffets (ie Chinese & curry nights) So there is something for everyone and at good value to.

On arriving we were shown to our seats, it’s best to book your table in advance if you are opting to dine there at the weekends as it does get rather busy. I’d ask to sit in the quiet area to as there were lots of children running around from the adventure area back to their families at the tables.

The staff were very pleasant and made us welcome. We browsed of the menu trying keep Isabelle occupied (she gets very lively around dinner time and she was rather hungry) then ordered food at the bar along with our drinks. It did take a while for our drinks to arrive at the table after ordering (15 minutes) shortly followed by our food order.

We were a little disappointed by the children’s options on the menu, it was a case of the usual chicken nuggets, burgers, fish fingers or pasta/pizza and all served with chips with the option of beans/peas or corn on the cob. Isabelle has been baby led weaned so will literally eat anything and doesn’t require any pureed/mushy food which is a good thing when eating out as we can always pick something for her to eat by herself. On this occasion I wasn’t happy for her to eat chips and would have preferred a healthier option but I understand that they put on the menu things that older children like to eat.  We opted for the chicken breast nuggets for Isabelle and attempted to take the corn off the cob for her but she ended up eating the salad off our plates.

The portion sizes are large and good value for money and the soft drinks include unlimited free refills which is a great idea especially for those little ones that are thirsty after playing in the adventure areas.

Our meals were edible but not great and my steak was rare in parts and very well done in others, there was no consistency. It wasn’t really a big issue for me as I will eat steak rare but I did ask for it medium.

Overall I am very happy with the service that we received and the staff couldn’t have been any more welcoming  but our actual eating experience wasn’t great. Would we eat here again? I think we would but probably on a quieter day
