Having Children Can Be A Fun Adventure, It Can Also Be Stressful

Having children is one of the most beautiful and rewarding things that you can do in this life, but it’s not for everyone. That’s because even though it is one of the best things that you can do, it’s also super stressful at times, and it can be hard to manage at times. Even though this is true, it doesn’t take away from that incredible bond and love you have for your children, which we think is the real magic.

So, if you’re expecting a baby, whether it’s your first or not, you need to be as prepared as you can. Down below, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the common stresses that parents face when it comes to having children so that you can see that you’re not alone. If you would like to find out more, feel free to read on.

Are You Ready?

Are you ready for a child/another child? If you’re not, then it seems like you might need to get ready because they are coming whether you’re ready or not. The thing about this is that you can never really be truly ready for a new child in your life. Even if you have had children in the past, all kids are different and you learn everything to do with one, only to have another who is the complete opposite and then you have to master everything to do with them. So, recycling what you knew from last time really isn’t going to help you all that much, which we know is the cause of a lot of people’s stress!

Of course, you should do what you can to prepare for the arrival of the new child as best you can. We’re not saying that you shouldn’t get prepared or get ready to the best of your ability, just that you will never fully be, and that’s not something to punish yourself for.

Sleeping Arrangements

If you’re having a surprise baby, you might not really have any room for them to sleep and this can be a huge pain in the behind to work out. Somehow, parents always do it though so don’t worry because we’re sure that you will too.

Now, what people seem to forget is that a newborn baby does not need their own bedroom, so if you don’t have one available for them you do not need to stress. In fact, it is recommended that babies sleep in your bedroom until they are at least six months old, sometimes even older depending on the baby. So, you don’t have to panic too much and you can instead work out how you can fit them in your room. Perhaps you can get a moses basket or something and have it next to your bed so that they are easily accessible to you and you don’t have to panic.

New vs Second Hand Goods

Another thing that you’re going to have to decide is whether you’re going to buy everything new, used or whether you’re to opt for a mix of the two. We recommend the mixture because there are some things you simply don’t need to buy new, and some things that you do. Car seats for example should always be bought from new because if they have been involved in a car accident at any point then they are no longer as safe as possible, and you never know what’s happened to a car seat in its life.

Things like buggies though can be bought second hand with absolutely no stress. As long as it looks like it’s in good condition and it seems to work fine, then there’s no reason you can’t do this!

Juggling Work

If you don’t have the luxury of sitting at home all day with your children then you may have to go back to work at some point. Typically, you can take however long you want off work. However, this might be unpaid and lead to stress on your pocket. See how long you are eligible to take off work, your employer will be able to tell you more.

However, if you are able to work from home then this will take some of the stress off regarding child care and being able to drop them off and pick them back up on time.

Knowledge Is Power

When you are expecting a baby, it can be a super exciting time in your life. However, it isn’t always sunshine and daisies. As a parent you need to be prepared to fight for your child if needs be, this could be with medical professionals or educational settings. If you believe there is something going on with your baby then visit the doctor to discuss this, don’t let them fob you off with the ‘it’s just a virus’ speech.

Your baby will also go through various regressions in their lifetime, this includes sleep regression and there are quite a few that you will need to get through. If you do your research on your 9 month old fighting sleep then it will likely come up with a sleep regression. You just have to fight it as hard as you can, there will be light at the end of that tunnel.

Attending Groups

Finally, when you have children it can be incredibly lonely and isolating sometimes. This is where baby groups come in handy where you can meet other moms and have a chat with someone who can actually speak. There will be some groups in your area, usually run by the local library if you have one. This tends to be where you can find all the information you need about days and timings. You can also sign up for private groups, such as Monkey Music or Hartbeeps. If you have already made mommy friends then you could all attend together, this makes it a lot less daunting.

As your children get older then their abilities may change, you could sign them up for dance class or football lessons. Base it off their interests and abilities, not something you would like them to do. The last thing you want to become is a pushy parent, putting your expectations on your child.

We do hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some ideas on how to manage the journey that is parenthood. While it is not all smooth sailing, there can be incredibly fun times along the way. Watching your children grow and develop can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
