On average, we sleep around 8 hours each night, some sleep more, some sleep considerably less. But for the purpose of this post we’ll go with the statistical average of 8 hours. That’s a third of our whole day that we are spending in our bedrooms.
For me a bedroom is a place to relax and unwind after a long and busy day, I look forward to going to bed (I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one) and I especially love those lazy Sunday mornings in bed.
After buying our first family home last year, we’ve enjoyed putting our stamp on each room but the last room that we have neglected to update, is our bedroom. Within the next month or two we are planning on giving our slightly boring, magnolia bedroom a well needed makeover with a fresh look.
Wanting to keep the costs a low as possible (that loft conversion isn’t going to pay for itself) I’ve been scouring the internet, mainly Instagram and Pinterest for ideas. Who doesn’t want that Instagram worthy bedroom?
Here’s a few tips on how you can give your bedroom a makeover without breaking the bank. It doesn’t matter if you are going for a fresh minimal look or full on Hollywood Glamour, these helpful tips apply to all
Furniture
You don’t have to replace your bedroom furniture set to make a difference, there are so many options available from furniture paint, vinyl wraps and even doing something as simple as changing the handles on items. We’ll be replacing the headboard on our bed for more of a statement feature.
Throw Pillows
A cheap, plain bedding set can easily be vamped up with some throw pillows. The best thing is that they can be changed all year round for different looks. Want to add a pop of colour? throw pillows are the answer. They are such an inexpensive way of creating different looks.
Plants
Whether they are real or artificial Plants can make a subtle or a huge difference in a room and bring about an air of vibrancy.
Mirrors
You can make rooms look bigger and brighter with mirrors, they don’t have to be huge and expensive. Take a look around your local bargain stores or even charity shops, you can often find a great bargain.
Comfort
For me bedrooms are all about comfort, a simple change can make all the difference in getting a good nights sleep. Something that we have recently changed is our mattress, it had seen better days and was time for a new one. Whether you want a firm, air sprung, memory foam or orthopaedic mattress, they don’t have to be expensive. Go out and test a few then take a look at deals like the latest Groupon deals in your area.
Feature Wall
You can pick up some fantastic wallpaper or bold paints for an accent of colour from discount and bargain stores. Obviously it depends on the size of your room but we worked out we could make a feature wall in our bedroom for under £20.
Artwork
Find prints that you like online and you can pop them in frames yourself, I’ve used really cheap IKEA frames and changed the prints often.
I’d love to hear if you have any tips on giving your bedroom a makeover
