The 8 Best Family Christmas Films to Watch This Christmas

Cosy Christmas

Christmas is such a magical time of year but there is no denying that a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to make it so special for the kids. All of the planning and organising and other things to do at Christmas can be exhausting. So when all the hard work is done; the Christmas tree is up, the decorations are hung and the presents are (almost all) wrapped, there is really no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to snuggle up to watch a family Christmas movie.

Watching one of the most popular Christmas movies is bound to get you feeling the Christmas feels but which one do you choose? There are so many these days so here is a list of the 8 best Christmas movies for kids to help you narrow the choice down.

The Polar Express is a lovely, animated movie based on the book by Chris van Allsburg in which a young boy who doesn’t really believe in Santa Claus gets transported on a magical journey towards the North Pole on the Polar Express.

The Christmas Chronicles is a Netflix original movie in which two kids accidentally crash Santa’s sleigh and it is up to them to save Christmas.

A Christmas Carol is a Disney computer-animated version of the classic tale by Charles Dickens starring Jim Carey who plays Ebenezer Scrooge as well as the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the movie version of the book by Dr Seuss in which the Grinch steals Christmas from the people of Whoville in revenge for them taunting him when he was young. A little girl manages to warm his heart and he ends up giving Christmas back…and more.

The Snowman is a short Christmas animation based on the book by Raymond Briggs about a snowman that comes to life and flies a young boy to the North Pole. There are no words, but the soundtrack is guaranteed to take you back to your childhood.

Elf is the story of Buddy the Elf who sets off on a mission to find his real father after discovering that he was adopted by Santa’s elves. The people of New York are less than receptive to a grown man dressed as an Elf, but he wins them round. This is one of the best Christmas comedies out there.

Miracle on 34th Street is a heart-warming tale of an ordinary man playing the part of a department store Santa who manages to make a young girl’s wish come true and restore her faith in the magic of Christmas.

Arthur Christmas is a brilliant animated, modern day story of Arthur, the unlikely son of Father Christmas, who discovers that one present has been forgotten on Christmas Eve so he sets off on a mission to take it to the little girl and avert disaster.

And for those fans of the Christmas Chronicles, you will be pleased to know the sequel is out this Christmas on Netflix along with a couple of other new releases that are promising to be fun!

Now, all that is left is to pop those Christmas jumpers or Christmas pyjamas on, pop that popcorn and snuggle up.
