Cairo alone is helping to push Egypt up the tourism ranks, generating 19 million annual visitors last year. The historic milestone is helping to position Cairo as a top attraction in luxury travel. A new target has been set, with experts hoping the region will hit 30 million by 2030.

Egypt is Seeing its Strongest Tourism Year on Record
Giza and Cairo have both welcomed record numbers, as visitors are eager to try and experience one of the oldest civilisations in the world.
Years of popularity with tourists have helped to fuel hotel demand, and now airlines are expanding their routes.
Modern media has also helped to fuel global interest in iconic landmarks, making it now one of the busiest places for travellers to visit.
Travellers often start at the Giza Plateau, which is home to the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To accommodate the increase in tourism, vehicles have been removed from the area, and now there’s a shuttle bus that links the major areas.
This is helping to reduce congestion, and it also helps to improve the experience for those who want to explore the site.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened in November 2025, is also a hotspot for tourism and a key driver behind the record numbers. The museum houses thousands of artefacts, including collections from Tutankhamum’s tomb.
Visitors can now see his golden death mask and numerous other treasures, all of which are being displayed for the first time. A jackal statue also sits on top of the shrine, which is how it was discovered 3,000 years ago.
What’s Driving Cairo’s Tourism?
Egypt’s tourism is being driven by recent openings and historical sites, but at the same time, modern entertainment is helping to put a big focus on it as well. Egypt continues to inspire television, as well as documentaries.
Recent releases and historical strategy titles like Civilization VII, for example, allow people to represent the leader, Hatshepsut, one of the greatest rulers of the era. Netflix’s show, Queen Cleopatra, also helped to put a spotlight on the culture.
Fury of Anubis, which can be played at an online casino UK, is another example. Anubis guards the dead and has a strong part to play in ancient Egyptian mythology. The mythical god makes an appearance in the title, helping to show how much of an influence the era still has on our modern-day life.
Those who want to take a deep dive into ancient Egypt will also find that the History of Egypt podcast offers an extensive journey into different Egyptian civilisations, as well as providing historical context to those who want to visit some of the many historical sites.
All of this combined has helped to put a spotlight on Egypt as a whole. In more recent years, Emirates, EasyJet, and British Airways have also expanded their flights to Cairo in popular UK airports to accommodate the rising demand.
Increased visitors have also pushed hotel prices to record highs, with visitors encouraged to book ahead of time to secure accommodation in popular regions like Cairo and Giza.
