Crafts: It’s taken a year

Patchwork Quilt

I had decided during my pregnancy that I wanted to make something for my baby and when we found out we were having a little girl I decided that a patchwork quilt would be a great option. There was only one problem, I had never sewn before and didn’t have a clue where to start.

8 months into my pregnancy I had all of my squares prepared to starting stage one of my project. It was great to have something to do whilst pregnant, I would spend my evenings sewing the squares into strips. It did become a little obsessive but once I had sewn all of my patches together I hit a wall. Sewing by hand had taken its toll and I couldn’t bare to  attempt to sew the back piece on by hand. I longed for a sewing machine

Yesterday my prayers were answered and I received a shiny brand spanking new sewing machine. So this afternoon I set up my work station and materials, I was all ready to go. Well with the exception of one thing,  how the hell do I operate a sewing machine. I spent two whole hours reading instruction manuals and asking friends for help, I was frustrated, close to tears and about to give up.  Now I am very technical minded but I was beaten by a sewing machine. Not my most glorious of moments I must say

AJ finally got fed up of my whinging and told me to search on YouTube to see if any kind person had posted a video on how to use my sewing machine. In case you are wondering, no they hadn’t. My saviour came in the form of a lovely lady who answered all of my silly questions and within half an hour I was zooming along actually sewing things!  My obsessive behaviour kicked in again and I didn’t stop for a break, I kept on going until my masterpiece was complete.

And here it is

Patchwork Quilt
I think for my next crafting idea I will attempt something a little easier, perhaps some bunting………….
