In our household they are almost none existent and that’s not a problem, we love spending time with our little lady but there are times when we forget that we are actually more than just a mum and dad, that it used to be just the two of us and we spent our time going for meals, trips to the cinemas and days out, enjoying our time together.
We have become that couple that would rather order a takeaway and pop a DVD in for the evening when the little one has gone to bed, I’m not saying I don’t enjoy that but I miss how our relationship was before Isabelle came along, when we had time together as a couple. We want to change our habits now and make time for ourselves so we have agreed that in the new year we shall make the effort to have at least one date night per month. I’m looking forward to catching up with the latest films, over the past couple of years we haven’t been to the cinema once and have opted to to watch the film on Blu-ray or DVD instead but you cannot beat the cinema experience even if you microwave your own popcorn. I felt a little left out over the summer this year with lots of fab films including Marvel Avengers which I did not get to see on the big screen in it’s 3D glory.
There are only so many times I can go to the same restaurant so maybe it will be fun to try out passport dining, making it our mission to sample cuisines from around the world and different nationalities.
We do have one date night/evening planned for December, a trip to the Christmas & European markets, fuelled with hot chocolate and ice skating, followed by a meal at my favourite restaurant and finally ending our day with a viewing of The Hobbit at my local Vue Cinema before heading home for a hot bath, pyjamas and cuddles before bed with my little girl.
So here’s to next year when we take out some time for just mummy and daddy to relax and be that care free couple, even if it is just for a few hours over a meal and the latest block buster.
