Little Legs has recently taken part in the Smiggle Just Be You campaign and its definitely an ethos that we can get behind. As parents we have always encouraged Little Legs to explore her own individuality, from the way she wears her hair, her style in clothing and even the toys that she chooses to play with. We’ve never said “no you cant have that, it’s for a boy” and as the fabulous team at Smiggle have stated ‘colour has no gender’, you should be free to make your own choices.
Why is it so important?
It’s all a part of developing who you are and building that self-confidence. We are lucky that Little Legs is confident in her choices, she knows her own unique style. She is very rarely discouraged by the opinions of others which I am thankful for.
We want to raise a child that is happy with who she is and is confident enough to be herself and make her own choices. So far, we have been supportive of her choices and given her the freedom to be comfortable with who she is(with the exception of wearing shorts in winter!)
Our differences are what makes us special, we should be encouraging children to be themselves.
For the purpose of this post, Smiggle kindly sent Little Legs a gift card to go wild with in our local Smiggle store. Armed with her gift card, we made the journey to our local store on a busy Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, we gave her free reign in store with the only stipulation was that she needed to pick out a new lunch bag for school as her old lunch bag had incident involving blueberries.
Off she went to explore the store and stopping to chat to the members of staff. They were fab in assisting her and showed her around the store pointing out where she could find the things that she was looking for. She probably could have spent the entire day looking around she finally narrowed down her choices. Her Smiggle haul included a Camouflage back pack, a stainless steel drink bottle, the Express Curve Hardtop Lunchbox, a pack a glitter marker pens and finally, a pack of colour changing markers (because you can never have too many markers). As you can see from the photos, she was extremely pleased with her purchases.
I’d like to thank Smiggle for highlighting how important it is to #JustBeYou
(and for the gift card, Little Legs had the best time picking out her favourite items)
