It’s almost Bonfire Night and I cannot find a toffee apple in any of the shops, Outrageous!
Usually our Bonfire night involves us staying indoors and watching the night sky light up with fireworks but this year we decided to do something. Rather than purchase a box of overpriced fireworks we planned to go to a display so it was great timing that our friend invited us up to her neck of the woods for dinner followed by a trip to the park for a bonfire and fireworks display.
Isabelle is always eager to go off adventuring but we were approaching dangerous waters, keeping her up past her bedtime with the added factor of loud and scary fireworks.
We needn’t have worried about the fireworks, she was rather impressed with them letting out lots of oohs and aahhs but the tiredness soon got the better of her. At one point I was used as a human punch bag and she had no time for her mummy. Instead she wanted to spend her time with her new found friend, my friends little (well not so little anymore) sister. She enjoyed every minute of it and demanded that she be carried around, wrapping everyone around her little finger. I really shouldn’t have expected anything different really since her new friend was the one that took her on the fairground rides like the teacups and a children’s roller coaster. These were her first time on rides and again my fearless daughter roared and screamed with delight as she whizzed around.
I on the other hand struggled in the low light and without my glasses, my balance was off and I feared I might take a tumble into the muddy depths of the park so clung onto the Mr with all my might. It was also very cold, my poor toes were close to freezing in my protective wellies and my nose was numb. This wasn’t helped by the rather long delay to start the display as people were dawdling into the park (not impressed for those that had been there on time!)
The highlight of my evening was watching the sheer delight on my little girls face as the fireworks lit up the night sky.
Also please tell me where I can find toffee apples, I’m not up to making them myself……the mess and stickiness scares me.
