Let’s say you have rented a one-bedroom apartment or a studio. Many single people do that these days. Perhaps you live in a large city, and this is the only type of living space that you can afford. If so, you may need help tdownsizing your life, at least for the moment. There are several ways you can do that, so let’s talk about a few of the easier ones.
Get a Fold-Up Murphy Bed
The Murphy company makes some of the best pull-down beds, and getting one can save you a lot of room that you can utilize for other things in your small living space. If you buy a Murphy bed that folds up into the wall, you can pull it down when you’re ready to go to sleep, and then you can push it back up and out of the way during the day. That will open up your floor space and make the studio or one-bedroom feel more roomy.
Get Furniture that Serves More than One Purpose When Downsizing
Furniture comes in handy, but it also takes up a lot of room. That’s particularly the case if you have something like a large dresser or a queen or king-sized bed.
Getting rid of your largest pieces of furniture is usually a must if you have a smaller apartment or a studio space. What’s helpful is to get pieces of furniture you can use for more than one thing.
Something like a Murphy bed that you can sleep on that also doubles as a couch or desk is ideal. That way, you’re checking off two boxes with only one relatively small furniture item.
Make Your Workstation Smaller
Many people work from home in 2024. If you’re one of them, you may find that your workspace is taking up too much room.
You can counteract this by creating as small of a workspace as possible. You might use your Murphy bed as a desk. You can also go from a bulky desktop to a laptop or tablet. You can often find one that serves the same purpose but doesn’t take up anywhere near as much room.
Take a Hard Look at Your Wardrobe
Many times, you will find that reducing the amount of clothing you have will clear a lot of space for you. If you have a studio or a one-bedroom, this is something you might have to do.
Look through your clothing and think about each article carefully. Do you see anything you haven’t worn in months or even years? If so, it’s probably time to organise and get rid of it to clear some much-needed space.
Mount Your TV
If you have a flat-screen TV, as most people do these days, consider mounting it on the wall if you are in a position to do so. Even flat-screen TVs take up significant space if they’re sitting on a desk, table, or dresser. If you mount your TV on the wall, that should clear some room for other items.
