Weaning so far

To start I do not believe there is a right or wrong way to wean your child, whatever method works for you is fine. What I do not agree with is feeding babies food that is high in sugar, fat and salt.

We’ve always had trouble when it came to feeding times with Isabelle, she suffered from Colic and Reflux so we weren’t looking forward to the weaning stage.

I’d heard the advantages and disadvantages of both baby led weaning and traditional weaning, undecided I approached both and would see what worked best for us. It turns out that using both is what works best for us.

So now along with her 5/6 bottle feeds a day she has three meals but her meals are purely just for fun and to explore new things, not a source of nutrition.  Her typical day will start with some toast, weetabix (using formula milk only) , fruit and a yoghurt, this I find covers all bases. Lunch times are when we introduce new foods such as fruit and vegetables, she enjoys her fingerfoods at lunch then when it gets to dinner time she will usually eat what we are eating as long as it has been mashed with a fork or is suitable for her to hold herself. Mealtimes are full of exploration and mess for us…lots and lots of mess.

We still use pouches of baby food when we are out of the house as well as finger foods like cucumber, carrots and bagels as these seem to be the convinient option. Isabelle has a liking for the Ellas Kitchen and Plum pouches and they go down a treat but she will not take the baby food that is in jars ( I have tried different ranges of these)

I may start to include our weaning story in the future.
